Position Paper and Guidance for Scrolling iAttachments
This is a new genre for the presentation of songs, and there are no rules.
We are inventing the rules at iAttachments, and here are our initial thoughts and guidelines.
It is our conviction that a song can be better understood and appreciated if the lyrics are visible.
And it can add to the tone of a song if the visual support is appropriate. The more the visual presentation
(both image and lyrics) keeps the attention of the consumer (both through simple tricks and more complex),
the more successful it is.
Editing songs
In general, the songs in the www.Creative.iAttachments.com song library are
ballads: there is a story told by the lyrics. But some songs are just mood or sentiment presentations where the listener does not
have to go to the final tag of the song to find out what happens. Songwriters do not like their songs edited.
But in our marketing environment on the Internet, usually the shorter, the better. As long as it doesn’t affect the meaning of the
song, some editing might be appropriate. This is on a song by song basis. If a song has a long (greater than ten seconds) intro,
outro or musical bridge in the middle, it might be advisable to edit down the music.
Lyrics
- Any font is permissible, as long as it is easily readable (e.g. olde English- no)
- The scale must be readable and commensurate with the scroll (i.e. the faster the speed of the scroll, the larger the scale because less words can appear on screen at the same time). This is a judgement call.
- It’s possible to have a scroll-less iAttachment with an instrumental if the visuals are interesting enough.
- The lyrics should be placed within the frame so that they interfere least with the visuals.
- The lyrics can scroll vertically or horizontally.
- The lyrics can fade in and out (dissolve).
- The lyrics can scroll into the frame (the Star Wars effect).
- The lyrics can alternate within the frame (i.e. one line appears in one part of the frame, and the next can appear in another part of the frame).
- In the case of a repeat of the lyric line or a word (“no,” “oh,” etc.), the lyric can appear all over the screen.
- The lyrics should appear visually on screen in sync with the vocals on the song.
- The lyrics should generally appear on screen as they come from the iAttachments. library (same punctuation, same capitalization) unless an improvement can be made.
Visuals
- Any visual technique is permitted as long as it keeps the interest of the viewer/ listener
- It can be one still image, either original or stock (with permission)
- It can be a simple motion, looped for the entire length of the song.
- It can be an animation or live action
- It can be a slide show of still images or brief video clips.
- Multiple image (2x/4x, etc.), image reversals, chroma reversals, pan, tilt & zoom: OK
